There are more tales of magical beasts on Skye than anywhere else in Scotland, but there are two places that have become synonymous with them. In the aftermath of the Jacobite defeat at Culloden, the government set out to punish the remaining Jacobite strongholds by taking away the rights of crofters. This forced them to emigrate by the tens of thousands to the US, Canada, and Australia.
