Loo, Egan (1 December 2013). "Top-Selling Manga in Japan by Series: 2013". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on 20 March 2015 . Retrieved 27 August 2019. I get it, she's afraid of being alone, and then you came to your senses but please, show me a more reasonable progress. It's her bloody friends, even if they're idiots. Mourn about the loss and the pain of leaving your comfy position; I want to see you suffer more. The art was nice, but it wasn't anything special. The characters did have their own unique look though. If you shaved all the characters bald, you could still tell which character was which. Kominato is that blunt yet very caring guy who you could just have a great time with. He has slight development later in the series, but he's the typical "go to man" for Kou. Not really a spoiler since it states it in his description, but he's in love with Murao, which adds for future tension in the manga. The two of them soon start sharing secrets and ultimately connects with each other over the fact that they could not connect with others and were left ostracized by their classmates. Even though Futaba doubts Yuri’s friendship at first (later fueled by the fact that Yuri develops a crush on Kou), Futaba still hangs out with her since they have no one else. It is at this moment that Futaba comes to know that Kou has been assigned to their class despite him being supposed to be in a special advanced class. Futaba and Kou begin spending a lot of time together since they are studying in the same class and are also chosen as class representatives. Yuri also starts spending time with them as she holds the position of event representative. They are joined by another outcast Shuko Murao and her admirer Aya Kominato and the five of them proceed to take part in various activities together. Blue Spring Ride Characters:

Based on manga series "Ao Haru Ride" by Io Sakisaka (published from January 13, 2011 to February 13, 2015 in the shojo manga magazine Bessatsu Margaret). In fear of being ostracized by her friends Asumi and Chie, Futaba continues to be superficial, much to Kou's criticism. Futaba finds her classmate Yuri Makita to be pleasant but she is reluctant to be around her due to her friends' disapproval. After her friends continue to badmouth Yuri, Futaba finally defends her, but this ends their friendship. One mistake a person could make is judging a manga before they could thoroughly understand it. Let's say you've only read three chapters of it; will you judge it then? Neglecting the fact that the characters and the I just finished Ao Haru Ride (Blue Sky Ride) and it was... ok. I expected more from an 8.3 and found it very bland.

It seemed like everything was covered in the anime besides the 2nd ML story. So if you would like to read more about him and read 294959 extra chapters of Futaba and Mabuchi confusing each other, then I highly recommend reading the manga. Final thoughts: Just, ok. Had potential but marred by LIA. Seriously thought, "This would get so much better if LIA was brutally killed right now" about 5 chapters from the end.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW - I did my best to vaguely word things to avoid overt spoilers, but touching upon elements of the later plot are important to understand my views on this manga.

Io Sakisaka wanted to draw a story about growing up, and for Ao Haru Ride, she wanted to focus on the characters' self-journey and discovering who they truly were. [11] Futaba and Kou's accidental kiss was based on a real-life experience Sakisaka had in the past. [11] Yoshioka Futaba has a few reasons why she wants to "reset" her image and life as a new high-school student. Because she's cute and had a demure personality she was ostracized by her female friends in junior high, and because of a series of misunderstandings and mishaps, she couldn't get her feeling across to the one boy she has always liked, Tanaka Kou. "Io Sakisaka's Ao Haru Ride/Blue Spring Ride Manga Gets Live-Action Show". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on 2 June 2023 . Retrieved 2 June 2023. Ao Haru Ride forces this unnatural character reset by having Yuuri and, Futaba pursue Kou before they find anything out about him. If the writers would have put the revelations about Kou's past at the start of the show and, then had Futaba and Yuuri try to get with him everything would have made more sense and, Kou wouldn't have had to have a forced character reset. I liked the art. The characters have all these cute moments that made me fond of them, making me carry on even through the parts of the story that didn't appeal to me that much.
