Description

If you press the Factory Default button too long, some switches change to recovery mode, signified by the LED light turning from green to amber. If this happens, power cycle the switch or press the Reset button to reboot the device. Many PoE devices don’t have any specific class defined, and these devices are generally classified as a class 0 device.

The GS105PE is a PoE passthrough switch which can only be powered by Power Over Ethernet (does not accept AC power). This is a 5-port Gigabit switch with PoE Pass Through. It belongs to NETGEAR’s 2nd generation of ProSAFE Plus Switch. Added a control option to disable or enable file transfer via TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol), under System > Management > Switch Managed Mode). Default is Disable. The PoE classes are programmed into the chips of the devices, so this cannot be modified by a firmware upgrade. Prioritize voice/video With the ability to set up and configure QoS, this Gigabit Plus switch can detect different types of network traffic and assign the desired priority to latency-sensitive traffic, such as voice and video. This helps improve the delivery quality of related applications such as VoIP, multimedia broadcasting, and video conferencing.Insert a straightened paper clip or a similar device into the hole of the Factory Default button and hold for two to three seconds. Port mirroring lets you send data from selected ports to others for network monitoring, as well as run basic cable tests and flag up faults. The switch can manage up to five port-based VLANs and apply one of five QoS priorities to each port for prioritising data such as voice and video. Take care powering the switch, since the input source determines its power budget and the device class it can support. Our HP ProCurve 2626-PWR switch supplies 802.3af PoE, which limits the budget to 8W and Class 1 and 2 devices. This meant we could power a small Axis 216FD camera, but didn’t have enough juice for our D-Link business wireless APs or Axis Q1755 Class 3 IP camera. Connecting the GS105PE to a TP-Link TL-SG3424P 802.3at PoE+ switch increased the budget to 20W and support for Class 0 and 3 devices, but there was still only enough power for one of those devices. Note on 802.3at interop issues with certain Cisco switches: Interop problems have been identified when the GS105PE is powered by some Cisco PoE+ switches. Certain Cisco switches (such as the 3560CG-8-PD) are pre-standard 802.3at and do not fully meet the 802.3at standard. Other Cisco switches (such as the Catalyst 2960S) have also been found to be not fully compatible and Cisco has a bug open for this. GS105PE can be powered by either IEEE 802.3af or IEEE 802.3at from either a PoE switch or a PoE injector.

Netgear’s new ProSafe Plus switches offer plug-and-play simplicity to small businesses, plus PoE expansion and handy traffic-management features. The GS105PE is the smallest of the family and provides five Gigabit ports. This NETGEAR GS105PE ProSafe Plus Switch is an exceptional value for businesses looking to add intelligence to their network beyond what unmanaged switches can provide. With the ability to set up and configure QoS, this NETGEAR GS105PE ProSafe Plus switch can detect different types of network traffic and assign the desired priority to latency-sensitive traffic, such as voice and video. This helps improve the delivery quality of related applications such as VoIP, multimedia broadcasting, and video conferencing.

NetGear GS105PE-10000S ProSAFE 5-Port POE/PD Gigabit Plus Switch

By listening in on the IGMP conversation between hosts and routers, the NETGEAR GS105PE ProSafe Plus switch can maintain a map as to which links need which IP multicast streams. The NETGEAR GS105PE ProSafe Plus switch therefore will be able to forward multicast traffic only to the links that have asked for them and cut multicast traffic from links that do not contain a multicast listener. Essentially, IGMP snooping helps optimise multicast performance at Layer 2 and is especially useful for bandwidth-intensive IP multicast applications such as IPTV.

GS105PE supports loop detection. When a loop is detected, the Link/Act and Speed LEDs on the affected port will blink at a constant speed with roughly 1 every second.Yes, when it is powered by 802.3af switch, it can supply power to class 1 or 2 PD only. When it is powered by 802.3at switch, it can supply power to class 0, 1, 2 or 3 PD. Please refer to the detailed information on the installation guide. The NETGEAR GS105PE ProSafe Plus 5-Port Desktop Gigabit PoE Switch meets the growing needs of small businesses by providing fundamental network features that will help optimise the performance their networks. User can configure Port Mirroring, Flow Control, IGMP Snooping, Loop detection, VLAN, QoS, Rate Limit, and Broadcast Storm Filtering.
