Lidl said lamb proved a popular alternative to the traditional turkey for Christmas lunch, with sales up 21 per cent year-on-year, while sales of its classic Christmas puddings jumped up 23 per cent. Lidl's ad starts in the present day, as a family - complete with pet dog - sit around a kitchen table preparing for a traditional Christmas lunch.

This year’s must-have item for Lidl shoppers was not the German supermarket’s stollen or glühwein, but its branded Christmas jumper which pushed a sharp rise in sales this festive season.
