Description

Melitta coffee filters are quite different from other brands, patented with three grades of paper in every filter and extra perforations in the higher levels; this creates three distinct aroma zones with advanced multi-layer filtration to get the best results from whatever grounds you are using: Improved extraction results from the concentration of coffee on the bottom of the filter which then creates turbulence as the water hits the grounds thus creating saturation over the entire surface area of the ground coffee. Most higher-end coffeemakers are equipped with cone shaped filter holders. If using a paper filter, we recommend Melitta Cone Coffee Filters which are the only filters that have patented flavor enhancing micro-perforations that provide the perfect extraction for a richer more flavorful coffee. All Melitta cone filters are also double crimped so they are guaranteed never to burst. I started by blaming an unannounced change in the blend of coffee beans, but realised that the coffee was actually from the same can as before! So I continued by assuming that I had put in either too little coffee or too much milk and tried again. However, after 4 such experiments, I found that I needed to put in TWICE as much coffee to get even a remotely acceptable cup (still without the full flavour I appreciate and am accustomed to). Founded in the early 1900s after the invention of the very first documented paper coffee filter, Melitta owes its name to the clever German housewife, Melitta Bentz, who made perforations in a metal cup and lined it with some of her son’s blotting paper to create the earliest known filter coffee. This simple innovation made it easier for thousands of people to make delicious coffee without the risk of bitter grounds getting into their cups and the company have gone from strength to strength in the century that’s passed since her coffee-making ingenuity was first put to the test. Developed specifically for coffee filters, Aromapor paper is micro-perforated to ensure only the finest coffee flavours make it into your jug or cup to release the fullest flavour. Yet it’s tear-resistant and strong enough to ensure it won’t disintegrate while you’re pouring hot water over your chosen coffee grounds, and the deep seams are firmly crimped so they’ll stay in shape – even on the way to the compost caddy after your coffee’s been enjoyed – but there’s no need for glue of any kind.

Many of our larger filter coffee machines have the function to brew smaller amounts of coffee, 2-5 cups, whilst maintaining the great taste of a full batch. This feature is called AromaControl and only uses half the power to create the same full flavoured perfectly brewed coffee. This function is great for households with varying coffee needs. Not just for Melitta coffee machines, these high quality Aromapor Paper Coffee Filters have been specially designed to optimise the flavour extraction of your favourite coffee from grounds to cup. Melitta Bentz was the maker of the first ever documented coffee filter, and her company is proud to have followed in her footsteps, making the best possible coffee machines and filter papers that fit into virtually all makes of coffee machine as well as filter jugs and pour-over cup filters. BALANCING – this topmost band is thinner still and more highly perforated. This helps to encourage a balanced taste and aroma with no bitterness. The type of coffee filter that you use can easily be as important to the end taste of your coffee as the coffeemaker or water that is used. There are many factors that need to be considered when choosing a coffee filter.

To keep your coffee tasting flawless, regular cleaning and descaling is essential. Many of our filter coffee machines have descaling displays and descaling programmes. These alert you when you need to carry out a descale of the machine. By regularly descaling your filter coffee machine you can prolong its life and ensure the perfect tasting brew every time. Finer grind coffees have a larger surface area exposed to the water so it provides a richer cup of coffee. Some permanent filters also transfer foreign taste and odor to your coffee. The correct size of filter to use is dictated by the size of the filter holder within your coffeemaker. Typically, basket filters fit all six to twelve cup basket style coffeemakers. There are also “Junior” size baskets which are available for four to six cup coffeemakers.

It should be noted that not all paper filter performs the same. Avoid cheap filters! Cheaper paper filters can impact the taste of your coffee by either transferring foreign flavors and/or via over extraction or under extraction. Other disadvantages of cheap paper are they can easily result in a mess by either bursting or clogging. Potentially Healthier -- Scientific studies have indicated that paper coffee filters play a crucial role in eliminating the cholesterol raising factor of coffee. Permanent filters, on the other hand, allow the cholesterol raising oils to filter into the cup.

Benefits of Paper Filters

In general, cone shaped holders with cone shaped filters are recommended as the design ensures optimal coffee saturation and extraction versus basket shaped holders/filters. The type and brand of coffee filter that you use can easily be as important to the end taste of your coffee as the coffeemaker or water that is used. While your coffeemaker may dictate the shape of filter that you need to use, there usually remain many options that you need to choose from that can influence the flavor of your coffee. I imagine that this new filter is designed to work with a full pot of coffee (but cannot comment on that); however, we use the machine to make 1-3 cups at a time and we are simply not going to be able to use these filters at all - it would cost us twice as much in coffee and we would still not be satisfied!
