It's somehow surprising to discover that there's a cutesy brawler hidden under all the wallet-driven infrastructure, mixing light platforming, breezy puzzles, and RPG-like elements, as well as an addictive card battling game and wave-based arena fights. The combat is solid, and aside from glacial movement speed, the stages themselves are full of things to see and do. Well voiced characters and at times stunning animated sequences complement a decent story, and it's nice to see Spyro as a central character again. What's more, the humour is sharp, despite its target demographic, with some dialogue that's bound to go over the heads of youngsters. There's very little good to say about "Skylanders: Imaginators," other than that it retains a few of the standard things you'd expect the "Skylanders" series to have: some pretty visuals, decent music, and accessible gameplay for the younger audience it is geared for. So, at the very least, the game, as a whole, is functional, and it controls as smoothly as the other games in the franchise. And, at the very least, it is nice to see that some of the old "Skylanders," like Stealth Elf and Jet-Vac, actually play a role in this game's story. Both Crash Bandicoot and Doctor Neo Cortex appear as guest characters with their own level, Thumpin' Wumpa Islands. This level has iconic gameplay features present in previous Crash Bandicoot games. The overall experience at the centre of all Skylanders: Imaginators' toys and loot chests is so charming and feature-rich that kids will enjoy it and adults won't begrudge playing it alongside them.
