As I said at the beginning of this blog this not a technical guide on how to capture the Milky Way or post process, there are thousands of those online. Panasonic opted for compactness and simplicity with the 14mm, and I think that decision will sit well with most M43 users. Although neither lens is meant for macro work, you can achieve a nice bokeh with the right background and by focusing close to your subject. At first look, the focus ring seems like any other focus ring, but pull it towards the body of the camera and it will slide down into manual mode—which is pretty sweet.

Olympus 12mm f/2 ED M.Zuiko Digital Review

We have also noticed that, with extensive use, the paint on the Olympus lens tends to scratch more than that of the Leica. Zuiko Digital 12mm f/2 naturally features a metal bayonet mount that allows it to be mounted to any Micro Four Thirds camera (but no “regular” Four Thirds DSLR, of course). Even so you can sometimes encounter a purple flash, such as in the partial enlargement shown here, if you don’t use the sun cap. In a way, to me, Panasonic lenses draw more like Nikon, with fairly fast transitions from sharp to unsharp, so if that is what you like, in combination with a Zeiss type contrast, go for it . Now take a look at the finished TIFF file which has been stacked using Sequator, this is a method which I think is a must if you are shooting the night sky, not just on a M43 camera but in general.

This lens has little trouble with lateral chromatic aberration, and we did not encounter any disruptive color bokeh.

This gives you an equivalent angle of view of 24/28mm which gives you lots of flexibility if you’re interested in landscapes or architecture.Another aspect not to be underestimated is the compactness of the Olympus lens, which, being half the size and weight of the Leica equivalent, brings two main advantages: it can be packed inside your camera bag at the last minute and used comfortably on any MFT body.
