There is something in the opening that does not fully agree with me, and I was well on my way to wash off and add another frag before I left the house. De Nicolai scents are always impeccable in taste, flawlessly blended and boast conspicuously natural-smelling components. Finding the best niche perfume lines is tough if you aren’t following all the perfume blogs or Facebook fragrance groups. Cuir Cuba Intense is a very well-blended fragrance, so one of the most noticeable changes at the end of the first hour pertains to the shape of the perfume’s notes.

Blended in the classic French style in which the individual notes meld completely, no one note stands out. I'm definitely enjoying it on my own and glad to have tried it, but not really my style and not sure when I would wear it or crave it. I liked parts of it quite a bit, but my favorite Nicolai scent continues to be the simple, less distinctive, less complex Amber Oud. I have been seduced by Pardon (swoon) and am awaiting a decant of M7 Absolu (tamer than the original of course but it does so appeal to me) and I’m definitely (if somewhat tentatively) coming over to the dark side.The scent is definitely unisex as the contrast of the floral and warm tobacco and other notes make it ideal for men or women.

I really sympathize about the licorice, because it’s something I can’t stand to eat or as a taste sensation but, oddly, I do love it in perfumery, especially when combined with dark notes.

Before the perfume unfolds its warm and intense fragrance, it surprises with a fresh start of liquorice and the delicacy of magnolia leaves.

S.: Luckyscent normally carries the PdN line, but does not yet have Cuir Cuba at the time of this review. But wow, the intense line is probably the most amazing set of offerings I have come across in a while, honestly they feel otherworldly, a level of respect for olfactory art that transcends public opinion. To me the smell was very similar to someone, wearing a nice citrus scent, having gone out for a cheap smoke in damp weather and coming back indoors again. It’s altogether something different here, in Cuir Cuba Intense, something rawer, spicier, blacker, more tropical and imbued with just the slightest suggestion of something almost rum-like. Yes, specific I know, but also not because I work in this area and the wipes and various surfactants, detergents, compounds and fragrances used in these places are pretty varied but when amassed they have this ubiquitous hyper soapy smell, which at first not unpleasant, starts to knock you sick shy of the hour mark, then you become somewhat accustomed to after a few hours (if you can stand it) That's the bad bit though, close to the skin you do get this less diffuse, blonde, TABAC smell, I like it, it sort of flips for me and that be kinda intresting but also a bit demanding of the wearer and I find some Nicolai's to be hard work and I don't always want that.
