There, the duke catches his wife with another man, and in turn, sleeps with Emanuelle. When his wife joins them, Emanuelle leaves, happily reuniting the couple. Emanuelle's boyfriend Bill later pays her a visit, the couple have sex during a rehearsal of the Spring concerto. At a party in the mansion, Emanuelle learns of a Caribbean island resort which offers beautiful men to sex-starved women. She also discovers the duke's hidden stash of forged paintings. When a pop out cake is opened, the party turns into an orgy, and Emanuelle takes pictures.

More a series of sexual vignettes than anything else, Emanuelle In America isn't a particularly plot heavy film but it is top notch, taboo breaking exploitation and, as such, pretty damned entertaining. More conservative viewers will no doubt take issue with the hardcore footage that is prevalent throughout the film and the scene with the horse (of course, of course) - and that's fair enough, this is strong stuff even if the bestiality scene is tamer than you'd probably expect (the fact remains, however, that even tame bestiality is still bestiality!). EMANUELLE IN AMERICA is clearly a testament to the declining CineCitta film industry of this time. Exploitation film-makers were being forced to throw genres together in bizarre hybrids to try and cover as many commercial bases as possible. Planning to investigate billionaire Van Darren, Emanuelle visits a boxing gymnasium, where Joe, a former fighter turned trainer after being replaced as Van Darren's bodyguard, provides her with false papers. Van Darren's harem consists of twelve zodiacal women, the only current opening being for a Virgo.

This limited edition release, only available directly from Mondo Macabro, also comes in a red case and with some reversible cover art, an insert booklet containing an essay on the film by Heather Drain and a set of collectible postcards. The trail of the snuff film leads her to a US senator in Washington, whom Emanuelle seduces. Presenting himself as a conservative patriot, he invites her to his studio. There, she convinces him of showing her his snuff film collection. Enamored, the senator has sex with her and drugs her drink. Emanuelle goes into a drug trip in which she travels with him to South America and witnesses torture and rape with her own eyes. In the morning, she promises the senator to visit him again. The infamous snuff film footage is also pretty intense. It's quite well-done and disturbingly effective. It stands in stark contrast to the sexual side of things (which is quite playful and fun) and goes to show just how fearless D'Amato could be when it came to combining sex and violence (for further examples see Emanuelle And The Last Cannibals, Porno Holocaust and Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead). This film is something else ... a must-see for every fan of exploitation and euro-sleaze. Despite its running time of 100 minutes the film never has a dull moment. Cinematography, editing, and music are lively, and make sure the pacing doesn't slow down.

From there, she gets one of her investigative photojournalist gigs and winds up travelling the globe and, as Emanuelle is wont to do, gets involved in various sexual shenanigans, including a lovely girl on girl sequence with an uncredited by instantly identifiable Lorraine de Selle (best known to Eurocult and horror fans for her appearance in Cannibal Ferox). After that, she watches an orgy where a girl pops out of a cake and, shortly after that, winds up investigating a snuff film operation before then heading off to a tropical island destination intended for women of a certain pedigree. Along the way she helps out a husband and wife (her real-life husband Gabriele Tinti and Paola Senatore of Salon Kitty and Images In a Convent) and then, of course, there's a horse named Pedro to be dealt with. One of the most notorious films in director Joe D'Amato's notoriously sleazy filmography is 1977's Emanuelle In America, which once again stars the lovely Laura Gemser in the lead role of Emanuelle. This time our hyper-sexual photographer is, when the film opens in New York City, being held at gunpoint by a man involved with one of her models. He intends to kill Emanuelle because she had the gall to photograph his girlfriend in her birthday suit, and in his mind, this makes her impure. He examines the history and popularity of the character and offers biographical information on the actresses who starred in the films. D’Amato gets a fair amount of coverage as does the worldwide longevity of the franchise.

At her apartment, Emanuelle's boyfriend Bill plays with Tony's gun while she prepares to leave for a meeting. Craving sex, he playfully threatens to commit suicide with the gun and gets Emanuelle to postpone and have sex with him. She moves on to a spa that caters to frustrated socialites and participates in further sexcapades. On her travels she connects with a conservative D.C. politician who surprises her with a disturbing bedroom kink. He shows her a snuff film during sex to further arouse her. It’s up to Emanuelle to expose them all and with her striking beauty and unique sensual talents, she is definitely up to the challenge. Mondo Macabro delivers a brand new 4K scan and remaster of the original camera negative for a beautiful new transfer, presented in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Image quality is quite pleasing and the picture is clean and free from dirt, scratches or other debris. There are a few brief moments of fading, but overall colors are bold and well-balanced. The abundance of skin benefits from natural looking flesh tones and there is also an increase in detail over the previous DVD release. Our intrepid journalist is no Lois Lane though, her version of investigative journalism being to flirt or shag her way in and out of trouble. Well, such methodology always served James Bond – and, more appropriately, given the tone, Austin Powers – just fine. Maybe it’s a form of Girl Power. Don’t worry, I’m not about to suggest that the Emanuelle movies are a shining example of female empowerment. This is exploitation cinema at its most blatant. The film opens with our Emanuelle being kidnapped and threatened by a disgruntled gunman. It doesn’t take much work at all for our heroine to outwit this poor uptight fool, simply by flirting with him until he gets upset and runs away. Whatever works.
