In the end, there is a 'longer' text with a brief biography of the Queen. The quality of this summary for children is perfect. In my opinion, it's supported by the fact that many newspaper articles about the royal family don't mention more details.

The book will also help children understand how the four nations came together as one United Kingdom, including details such as Owain Glyndwr’s rebellion against the English in 1400 to take the title of ‘Prince of Wales’, on the journey to the Queen’s reign which continues to this day.

Craig Brown’s 2017 book is a very unusual biography of Princess Margaret – laugh-out-loud funny, scurrilous, and with interspersed sections of fiction. (He imagines alternate lives for her – a bit Sliding Doors). You would imagine The Family hated it, and it is occasionally uncomfortably intrusive. These Little People, Big Dreams series are a wonderful find for small children. However, this book is so Special and was wonderfully written about a great lady Our Queen.

If you read a lot about the Queen, you get used to a certain phrase: “she must have been feeling…[sad, happy, angry]”. The books about her are full of speculation, because so much is unknown – the late Queen Elizabeth II was a woman about whom we know everything and nothing. Authors try to convince us that they know her secrets. There is no doubt that her love of country life and animals never dimmed, and one of my favourite illustrations is this one, of her beloved Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She spent her summers there every year, and it was at Balmoral that she died in early September 2022. (This was being published before her death.) A timeline of the extraordinary events in history, as well as the incredible achievements of people from the UK and Commonwealth countries that have taken place during The Queen's lifetime Queen Elizabeth tried starting new traditions such as walking through the crowds to say hello, she made a law saying girls had the same right to the throne as boys which was quite an accomplishment, and started a televised Annual Christmas Broadcast. In all she met 14 British Prime Ministers, 13 Presidents, and many Leaders who had a role in shaping the World. She traveled overseas more then 250 times visiting 110 countries.

There is also a major item of interest right now: Anne was one of the maids of honour at the coronation of Elizabeth II, present even for the parts of the ceremony that were considered too private to be filmed. Almost no-one else who had an active, adult part in the ceremony is still alive, and that knowledge of the coronation is something she holds alone.
