Miyagikyo distillery was built in foothills of the Miyagi region within a wide forest valley at the junction of two rivers - the area is renowned for pure air and clean, fresh water. The new single malt is said to be made with whiskies spanning various ages (hinting at the inclusion of older whiskies than the previous NAS release) with classic delicate, floral character and primarily ex-Sherry casks used for maturation. Travelling in the area one day, Masataka came upon this site completely enclosed by mountains and sandwiched between two rivers.

The Miyagikyo style is delicate, fruity yet intense characters and represents the perfect introduction for those new to Japanese whisky. There’s some darker, more complex notes too, in the form of chocolate, along with candied fruit and some honey.In Yoichi, Masataka Taketsuru saw numerous reminders of Scotland, and this convinced him that this should be the home of Japanese Whisky. uk accepts no liability for inaccuracies or misstatements about products by manufacturers or other third parties. Nikka’s founder Masataka Taketsuru chose this site in the mountains of Sendai to contrast with his first distillery, Yoichi, which located in the coastal area.
