When burnt-out lawyer David Zinc quits his job at a major corporate firm, a stress-induced nervous breakdown, heavy drinking, and the prospect of unemployment lead him to the doors of the seedy law Continue reading » The chamber in question is the gas chamber at the Mississippi State Penitentiary--and for 69-year-old Sam Crayhall, the road thence has been many years long. Sam was twice tried and twice acquitted Continue reading » Well, John Grisham has done it again. Talk about partners in crime on so many levels! I was shaking my head in utter surprise and disbelief through each chapter. Grisham did not disappoint.

The Partner by John Grisham - Publishers Weekly The Partner by John Grisham - Publishers Weekly

They found him much thinner, down considerably from the two hundred and thirty pounds he’d been carrying when last seen. His hair and skin were darker, his chin had been squared, and his nose had been slightly pointed.Subtle changes to the face. They’d paid a steep bribe to the surgeon in Rio who’d performed the alterations two and a half years earlier. I truly enjoyed reading this book. I had a hard time putting it down. It has an unusual twist ending, which was so unexpected. However, I was a little bit disappointed with it.Cowan is writing the adaptation as part of his overall deal at Sony TV. He is executive producing with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox as well as Grisham’s longtime rep David Gernert. The running was serious business, and it pleased them mightily.Danilo would simply run into their arms. Leave it to Grisham to make a battle about wills nail-bitingly suspenseful in his second novel featuring lawyer Jake Brigance, the hero of Grisham%E2%80%99s debut, A Time to Kill. It%E2%80%99s 1988, Continue reading » I thought this was a highly entertaining legal thriller--implausible maybe, but who cares as long as it's fun?--until the very end. It lost a whole star with that ending. If you're going to pull off a twist like that, it needs some additional foundation. Foreshadowing. Something. Grisham's recent slump continues with another subpar effort whose plot and characters, none of whom are painted in shades of gray, aren't able to support an earnest protest against the death penalty. The Partner Movie Everything You Need to Know About The Partner Movie

It's not a courtroom drama but more about how the protagonist uses the system & legal maneuvers to get himself out of trouble. Who needs lawyers? Not Grisham, in his captivating new novel, now between hardcovers after serialization in the Oxford American. Here there are hardscrabble farmers instead, and dirt-poor itinerant Continue reading »

They found him alone, as best they could tell, though a maid came and went at odd hours during the eight days they hid and watched. I love Grisham’s writing style. I was engaged all the way through. There was good action and a lot of suspense. By the end I was amazed, impressed, and intrigued with all the planning, strategizing, and how things worked out. It may not be believable but it was fun. Then the ending was frustrating and unhappy. I WANT HAPPY ENDINGS. Unfortunately that was my only problem with the book. I loved the experience. The only thing positive about the end was that it was thought provoking. I had to tell myself yes I could see that. But it’s not a story I want to hear. I normally would give this book a below average rating due to the ending, but because the rest was so good, I compromised at 3 stars. For someone who would enjoy smart-thinking, out-thinking others, and a good suspenseful read, go ahead.

The Partner - John Grisham

America's most popular author is arguably its most popular crusader as well, tilting his pen against myriad targets, including big law (The Firm, etc.), big tobacco (The Runaway Jury), big insurance Continue reading » It's a dull story about what happens when you steal a lot of money, and how to keep it hidden. Why not start at the beginning and show what led to the crime and then the escape from justice? They were afraid to dig too deeply into the current life of Danilo Silva. If he was in fact their man, then he had plenty of money. And cash always worked wonders with the local authorities. For decades, cash had bought protection for Nazis and other Germans who’d smuggled themselves into Ponta PorÒ. A man is hiding out in Brazil under an assumed identity. Four years before he had been a partner in a successful law firm in America. By all accounts he was happily married and adored his daughter. But then, he had died in a car accident. Shortly afterwards ninety million dollars had disappeared from a client.....It's only a matter of time before the man is found and positively identified, but who will get to him first? Fans of the bestselling Grisham will be pleased to note that he is once more on Firm ground: his latest legal thriller offers a clever, compelling plot coupled with two singular protagonists sure to Continue reading »They watched Danilo Silva for days before they finally grabbed him. He was living alone, a quiet life on a shady street in Brazil; a simple life in a modest home, certainly not one of luxury. Certainly no evidence of the fortune they thought he had stolen. He was much thinner and his face had been altered. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well. But Danilo had a past with many chapters. Grisham is a two-time winner of the Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction and was honored with the Library of Congress Creative Achievement Award for Fiction.
