Description

People are elastic. We can keep reshaping ourselves. And if we’re not quite the same as before, well, that’s good. It means we can grow.” - Wax Wax's sister Telsin, the leader of the Set, a terrorist group working for Trell (actually a Shard of Adonalsium called Autonomy), plots to smuggle a magical equivalent of an atomic bomb into Elendel. Marasi goes on a mission with a mysterious group known as the Ghostbloods, led by Kelsier, to stop Autonomy's forces from invading the world. Meanwhile, Wax and Wayne go to confront Telsin at the Set's base, killing several Set members, but discover that the bomb is not there, and instead is on a ship headed for the city. Marasi stops enemies in time and disables their portal, preventing the invasion, while Wax reaches the boat with Wayne. The duo discover that the bomb can be defused, but the defuser will die in the process. Wayne sacrifices himself to both defuse the bomb and save Wax. Telsin's overloaded body dies upon Autonomy removing her influence.

At least in the first draft, there is a "very minor" plot point that involves a desiccated frog. [23] Following completion of The Alloy of Law Brandon plotted out three more books, following the same characters, to finish the story. Brandon began writing The Lost Metal in April 2021, after he finished Cytonic, [2] and completed the first draft on August 4, 2021. [3] The second draft was completed on September 20, 2021, [4] and went to beta readers and Brandon's editor shortly thereafter; [5] the beta reads concluded some time in November. [4] The post-beta read edit was done by March 7, 2022; [6] it took more time to complete than Brandon had expected and resulted in the book growing longer than he had initially anticipated. [7] After that, Brandon did one final edit, which was done by May 24, 2022, before turning the book in to Tor [8] for a November 15, [1] 2022 release, around when the first two Era 2 books were released in leatherbound. [5] I would like to time travel to 2018 so I can read this book, thanks. Hopefully Donald Drumpf is not president. I would like to extend a special thanks to my good friends Kalyani and Rahul, longtime beta readers, who have been encouraging me for years to look into Indian mythology and lore for inspiration for fantasy storytelling. They provided excellent consultation in this book on a certain character who the three of us worked on together to try to expand the Cosmere a little bit in this direction."

City folk, particularly politicians, were intimidated by small arms. They preferred to kill people with more modern weapons, like poverty and despair.” - Wayne Waxillium Ladrian · Wayne · Marasi Colms · Steris Harms · MeLaan · Miles Dagouter · Ranette · Edwarn Ladrian · Bleeder · Claude Aradel · Telsin Ladrian If you read "Mistborn: Secret History" you will know that a certain character is heavily featured here, and I absolutely hated that reveal. It cheapened the fate of this character and felt like it was being way too cute. That character now is featured, and I hate the direction that this took. Not only that, but the reveal of this character in Mistborn: Era 2 was a huge cliffhanger in the 3rd book, with so many questions left lingering that just simply do not get solved here. Edit #7: It is now the end of 2021. Sanderson has blessed us with the official release date. 11/15/2022. Save the date in your calendars y’all! And keep wearing your masks so you don’t get the Omicron variant and die before you read the book!

Thirdly, if you are a cosmere fanatic, you will appreciate this book because there are so many references and tie-ins happening in this book. Fans will make theories and try their best to guess what this book means for the cosmere world going forward, which is always fun.

The Mistborn Saga is one of my favourite worlds and while I’m sad to be leaving another group behind, I’m excited to move to the next era. I’ve learned so much from this series. About love, about faith, about trust, about discovering one's self. I’m getting so emotional writing this but as Mama Wayne said: Aún así, si tenéis pensado leeros todo el Cosmere... Mi consejo es que no tengáis prisa y disfrutéis de las cosas en orden para sacarle el máximo provecho. If you think of something that would be good for us to add, just let us know in the comments! If you have a question to ask, that's a great use of the comments as well.

The Lost Metal was pretty much the perfect finale. The last few books provided the much needed foundation of the worldbuilding especially around the progression of the magic system, and developing characters that we know and loved so much, and the basis of the overarching story for Mistborn Era 2. Armed with this strong foundation, this finale was a high-stakes, fast-paced story that pointed our main characters towards the primary threat almost right from the get-go. I was a bit surprised and delighted that we also got some answers pretty early in the book, and typical of Sanderson, continued to get more which were craftily scattered throughout the narrative keeping me absolutely riveted. However, despite the pace and the revelations, and the amount of incredible action scenes, we still got plenty of character moments which continue to develop our characters even more. The ending was a beautifully bittersweet one, and one which will keep me thinking about it for days and weeks to come. If I wanted to learn about Shard/worldhopper/magic systems in depth, I would go read the extensive wiki. He couldn’t see anything familial in [Telsin]. Familiar, yes. But whatever he had loved was long gone, ripped out and replaced with expansions of the parts of her he’d always hated.” My god... The Lost Metal was an explosive and stunning conclusion to Mistborn: Wax and Wayne series. Sanderson haUsually, Wayne is amazing. He is super funny, but in this book, a lot of his humour was very juvenile and childish, even for him. They sounded like something my little cousin would say, and that made it cringe-y sometimes. Still was funny, but not as much as in previous books. Beyond all the cosmere nerdery (and believe me, I could go on) The Lost Metal proves a satisfying conclusion to the second era of Mistborn; though one that still evades the five-star rating. I think I was just never as in love with the industrial era setting as I was with the first era's high fantasy one. But even so, it was an impactful and enjoyable story, as Wax, Wayne, Marasi, Steris, and a whole host of characters new and old try to save their city from the impending threat of Trell. The book starts with a bang and then it is action all the way. The gods are very busy. Autonomy is stirring up Wax's sister to evil doings, and Harmony is less useful than usual. When things get really serious Wax is called upon to save the world, although in the end I think Wayne is the biggest hero. There are many nods to the Cosmere and even a character or two dropping by. You are whatever you want to be, Wayne. You’re the wind. You’re the stars. You are all endless things."

At the end of chapter 30, Wayne remarks he had “[a] man‘s whole life“ - as reflected in this man‘s apartment - to figure out who that person was. Is it too far-fetched to think this quotation is an allusion to Malcalm X‘s “A man‘s whole life can be changed by one book“? Probably. This section is intended to be a helpful resource to anyone wanting to prepare for The Lost Metal.
