Description

As was the case with the original Polaroid images, obtaining instant gratification in the form of PoGo prints necessitates some compromises–though fewer than you might expect. Output quality directly correlates to the quality of the captured image: My Treo’s 640-by-480-resolution image was flat, with little contrast and dull colors; moreover, it wasn’t sharp and I noticed banding in the landscape’s blue sky.

The only thing I find a little bothersome is that it takes longer than I thought it would to actually make the connection and start printing. But, if you follow the directions and wait patiently it works every time. Linking the PoGo to a Bluetooth phone is very straightforward and once we got the phone to do a Bluetooth search, it spotted the Polaroid printer and linked to it without problem. It only takes around four seconds longer to print via Bluetooth than to print over PictBridge. Installation and set up could hardly be easier. A catch on the end of the PoGo releases a spring-loaded lid and 10 sheets of ZINK paper fit into a recess in its body. Clip the lid shut again, and it’s ready to print. There’s no software, as this printer doesn’t work with PCs; only with cameras and mobile phones. The phone connection is via Bluetooth, and all you need to set that up is the printer’s pin, which the phone requests before completing the link. For more on what’s in the box and a demonstration of the PoGo in action take a look at Matt’s PoGo Video. If you're a regular Superdrug shopper, you can now earn more freebies and discounts under its Health & Beautycard loyalty scheme, as the retailer has launched new 'VIP Rewards' as part of it. Since it must remain plugged in though, I'm keeping this one at home and have received a new but different brand as a gift in which can be brought along anywhere wirelessly. If you've got a Marcus easy-access savings account or cash ISA, you can easily boost your interest rate to 4.75% – here's how. Setting up is dead simple. Once you remove everything from the box you just have to install and charge the internal rechargeable battery. If you are a bit impatient you can start printing while the unit is charging.

However, for the PoGo to really take off I think the cost of the photo paper has to come down and come down a lot. If Polaroid can get the cost per print down to around 10p per print then I’m sure more people will consider the PoGo. I’d also like to see a larger version made available. I know the portability will be somewhat compromised but I would much rather have 6×4″ prints. I bought this little printer to use with my SMASH book so I could take photos of my everyday life with my phone, print it instantly and SMASH it in my book. It has average image quality but pretty good considering the portability. The second way to print is to connect a PictBridge compatible digital camera. Connecting the printer to a compatible camera with a USB cable is normally enough to put the camera in to PictBridge mode. On my camera for example a button lights up blue when the printer connects and pressing the button prints the image currently displayed in the screen. Tesco Mobile is to start charging new and recently joining pay-monthly customers to use their mobiles in Europe from 2024. I first saw the Polaroid PoGo a few months ago at a press event and when I saw it I immediately wanted one. The PoGo seemed like a great idea and as I am always behind a camera it was a logical addition to my gadget bag. While there’s no doubt that the PoGo printer is extremely convenient and easy-to-use, the ZINK technology is not at a stage where you’re going to see good images. Give it some more development and another couple of generations and it might get somewhere near the standard of the old Polaroid instant photos. I've never had any other portable printers but if I was comparing it with my big printer obviously that one has better image quality - but I can't carry THAT printer in my bag. For truly mobile instant photo prints the PoGo is amazing, you’ll have your friends cooing over your new gadget!
