If you are a horse owner, you have probably had (many) conversations about proper bathing for your horse and with each question comes a variety of – even conflicting – answers. Is bathing good for their skin or does it dry it out? Should you use warm or cold water when bathing in the summer heat? When is regular bathing too much? Breeds: American Foxhound, Australian Cattle Dog, Australian Terrier, Basset Hound, Basenji, Coonhound, Bloodhound, Lab and Pug Not all dogs like to be groomed, so it is important to know your dog’s preferences and tolerance at being handled during grooming. If you have a puppy, begin grooming them at an early age to avoid issues later as they grow bigger and stronger! Remember, just like with humans, the skin is your dog’s largest organ and its health and condition are crucial to the overall well-being – and comfort – of your four-legged companion. A dditional Reading:

DO use lots of patience, praise and treats when trimming your dog’s nails. If necessary, do just one or two nails at a time to encourage your dog’s comfort. An amazing experience with this tool. My cat is a medium/long-hair rescue and extremely averse to any grooming tools. With the Equigroomer, she’ll snuggle up and purr while I brush her. My only problem is it’s hard to get her other side, because half the time she’s asleep by the time I’m done the first side! Shape into balls of desired size or simply spoon into a dish to serve. May be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days or frozen. Run the AC for cooler temperatures. Fans may not always be enough to cool things down (including your rabbit) in extremely hot weather.Running a rabbit rescue, we decided to try it on our bunnies. They love being groomed. The EquiGroomer removes a lot of hair, leaving the lionheads looking less scruffy, and all of them looking well groomed. Unsure about how often to bathe your horse? Talk to other experienced horse owners as well as your vet. Also closely monitor your horse after each bathing and then proactively adjust the frequency and products for the best outcome! If you decide to bathe your horse more frequently, use a gentler, hypoallergenic shampoo. (It is also better for a horse with sensitive skin.)

Before bathing – and in between baths – regular, deep brushing will help stimulate blood circulation in the skin, distribute natural oils throughout the coat and remove dirt, dead hair and dandruff. Regular brushing also keeps shedding under control. Always brush your dog just before bathing for the best results. The shedding tool will grab, pull and remove (or thin out) the dead or molted undercoat hair which may not fall out on its own with the warmer temperatures. Removing this heavier winter undercoat will also help your canine stay comfortable – and cooler – in the heat.At the end of the day, it is the horse owner who decides on what is best for their horse, health, overall well-being and ultimately comfort. Maintaining a horse’s optimal health – including bathing – is different for each equine.

Kate, thank you for a very good question. It is actually best to use the EquiGroomer on a clean, dry coat. The teeth on the groomer’s blade has tiny barbs that grab onto dead, dry, scaly hair and pulls them out. A wet, dirty or oily coat flattens those scales so the teeth won’t be able to grab onto anything. That’s also why the blade will never remove hair that is healthy, smooth and shiny. It’s completely safe and keeps an animal’s coat, whether it be a horse, cat or dog, in beautiful condition. ReplyThe down undercoat can mat and tangle if not regularly maintained. An unmanaged undercoat can also cause your dog to overheat. Carding is a grooming term – and process – to describe the removal of a dog’s undercoat. The undercoat is the soft, short, downy and dense hair under the top (or outer) coat. The undercoat insulates and protects the skin in colder weather. Kathy, that’s what the EquiGroomer products are all about! We designed them so they’d not only work well but also be something you and your pets would look forward to using. I’m so glad it worked so well for you. If you’re looking to save time and mess, then you’ll definitely want to add the WaterWisk 5-Inch Pet Squeegee to your dog’s bathing tool kit because it works great at removing excess soap and water from their coat. So, does your dog need carding, hand-stripping, both or neither one? ( Hint: they are not the same thing.)
