Can you confirm that the cleaning works as well, not just the charging function? I have a 5190cc as well and tried a solo Series 5, I think it was the 5030s, and it didn’t work. The 5147s is a newer model so it is possible to have the chip for pairing with a station, although I still doubt it. Braun customer support also told me that it will not work. On one hand, I want a solid shaver that last for 7 years give or take, but on the other hand, I don’t wish to be expensive. It’s gonna be my 1st try with a foil razor and i’m afraid what’s happen if it won’t work for me…30 days return policy is not valid in my country..there is no local distributor that enforcing this policy. Thanks for the detail comparison, really enjoy all the informative articles you have here. I bought the 5190cc and as you have rightfully mentioned, Braun series 5 is really good. Have been using it daily and enjoying it. Am new to cleaning station though, thus couple of questions here, hope you can help to shed some light. In my opinion the Series 5 is the entry point to Braun’s high-quality shavers and a big step up from the entry-level Series 3.

First of all I think any of the shavers you mentioned will be a significant improvement over the ES-SA40. I’ve used a similar one-blade Panasonic in the past and I clearly remember that it caused me massive irritation. The Series 5 from Braun is a mid-range line of electric shavers that fills the gap between the entry-level Series 3 and the best-selling Series 7 shavers. Braun Series 5 electric shaver for men makes shaving easy with 3 Flexible Blades that adapt to your facial contours. The EasyClean system delivers a fast and easy cleaning without removing the shaver head. I think I’ve settled on the Series 5 (5195cc) since it’s so similar to the Series 8. I’m just a little sad that it’s apparently not quite as good in terms of battery life, noise, and power/speed as the Series 8. Nevertheless I think the 5195cc would serve me well. I have a series 5749 which states the appropriate replacement head is a 52B but have noticed that the 51B is sometimes cheaper. I would be interested in finding out if I can use the 51B and what the differences are. ReplyWhich one should you buy? Well, if you need wet/dry capabilities then the 5040s is the one to have. If you don’t then you should pay a bit more and go for the 5090cc instead; it’s basically a 5030s with a cleaning station and a hard travel case. The Braun Series 5 5145s comes with an auto-sensing motor that automatically reads beard density and adjusts the shaving power accordingly. This is a very new technology for Braun Series 5 that was not implemented in the older generation shavers. Braun designed the existing Series 5 models with 3 pressure-sensitive shaving elements as a result; the Braun 5145s is highly efficient for sensitive skin.

Braun Series 5 Review and Comparison: Which Braun Series 5 Braun Series 5 Review and Comparison: Which Braun Series 5

Braun released different models in different versions of series 5 shavers. At the first release of Braun Series 5, Braun brought their shavers with 5xx numeric assertion (550s, 560s, 590cc). The first-generation shavers are not available on the market now. The second-generation Series 5 shavers were released with 50xx numeric assertion (5090cc, 5050cc) where very few are available. I really love using a pop-up trimmer, so isn’t sure if the slide version of series 3 will be comfortable Hi I’ve had a philips for years but just bought the Braun Series 5 5147 s. I’m in Spain. I have to say I’m disappointed with it. It doesn’t matter how I use it, wet or dry it just doesn’t shave particularly closely, especially under the chin. I do have tough bristles but unfortunately quite sensitive skin so not quite sure which would be the most suitable shaver. My budget is around 200 euros. I’d be grateful if you could offer some advice. Thanks Reply As for the cleaning indicator, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. I am yet to see an accurate and genuinely useful cleaning indicator on an electric shaver. The one on the Series 5 and on all the other Braun models is just a timer-based indicator, it doesn’t actually evaluate the hygiene state of the shaving head; it just counts how long you have been using the shaver since the last automated cleaning. And it also doesn’t know whether the shaving head is attached or not.You wrote in the article that you don’t recommend Braun for wet shaving, because manual cleaning is problematic. But does wet shaving itself with an electric razor (especially Braun series 5) give a better effect than a dry shave? And can wet shaving take place e.g. in the shower, but without any foam/gel? Very pleased with the unit. Huge improvement from my old Braun unit. The battery charge lasted two weeks for me from the first time I recharged it. It still does today. The Braun 5050cs is the most advanced shaver in the new EasyClean version of shavers. The shaver comes with a smart design and a user-friendly interface with a rubberized grip. Braun used 3 independent floating elements on the shaver head that glides smoothly over the skin and makes the shaving process soft and comfortable. The shaver comes with a charging stand to charge the device securely on the bathroom countertop. The trimmer is the same as the one on the Series 9, maybe just a tad narrower. I had the same gripes with it, I didn’t like the curved profile and it required many strokes to get all the hairs.

The secured rubber grip of the shaver has been textured for making the grasp comfortable and risk-free. The EasyClean shaver is 100% washable which makes the cleaning process easier and safer. The foil elements are flexible enough to make the shaving process softer and comforter. The 5145s and 5195cc are absolutely identical in terms of performance whether you use them wet or dry. And speaking of which, I was only referring to the fact that Braun shavers in general aren’t significantly better during a wet shave compared to simply using them dry. For example, this difference is more noticeable in the case of other brands. But you could definitely use either of them with shaving cream if you choose so. Regarding the price of the replacement heads, you are pretty much on point. Three cassettes will amount to the price of a new shaver. However, given the benefits and the convenience of an electric shaver, particularly one that yields great results, I think it’s worth it. Would these models be in line with my thinking? Or do you have other recommendations? Thank you for all your research! Reply The 5040s lasts for 45 minutes with a fully charged battery, while the 5030s should last for 50 minutes.I think the 3040s would be good enough since you were very satisfied with the 340s — it basically shaves the same. The Series 5 is in my opinion a superior shaver in all aspects: more powerful, faster, gentler, better with longer/flat-lying hairs. The hair trimmer is the same though, but I understand that you liked the one on the Series 3. The models that don’t include a cleaning station usually cost less, but that’s not always the case. The mid-range foil shaver line Braun Series 5 is getting overwhelming on the market for different reasons. Braun made 2 major revisions to their existing Series 5 shavers like the higher range Series 7 and Series 9. The robust third-generation and some 2 nd generation series 5 shavers are available on the market with and without automatic cleaning and charging station. Beyond the existing Series 5 shavers, recently Braun released their newly shaped electric shavers that look completely different. However, Braun minimized the price range in the newly released shavers and added some extra facilities as well. In this article, I’ll ascertain all the available Series 5 shavers and compare them with newly released shavers to decide which one is the best and which one suits you best. Overview The Series 5² shavers are credited with a 50-minute battery running time, while the older ones last for 45 minutes. Thanks for all the information. I have a braun 320s-4 that I just started using again as I am 90 years old and getting a little shaky but want to get anew dry braun that shaves fairly close and isn’t irritable, any suggestions? What confuses me is it tells you the shaver must be dry when you put it in the cleaning station so does that mean he shouldn’t rinse the hair out after shaving before he puts it in the CC?The M90 is one of the better travel shavers, but you might want to use it more often as it can struggle with longer hairs. It’s a very basic single foil shaver. However, if we consider the performance and the overall capabilities of the Series 5, they are a whole lot closer to the Series 7 than the Series 3. This means that once the cleaning cycle is over, it will take several hours for the shaving head to dry. The shavers in the new Series 5² like the 5190cc or 5195cc use the same cleaning station as the 5090cc with the 3 cleaning modes. Braun engineered their older generation Series 5 shavers with auto sense motor. The motor can read the beard density and adjust the power. The power increases and decreases according to the beard density. But the new generation Braun Series 5 shavers don’t come with an auto-sense motor. However, there are not many uses for the auto-sense motor. Because the shaver most of the time needs to run with the highest power. I observed it needs to reduce the shaving power very few times. Therefore, it’s not a mandatory technology for an electric shaver. But the older generation Series 5 shavers get up for this additional technology. Extras:
