It balances the different actions really well (making attacking monsters a high-stakes, all or nothing move) and allows players to have big turns playing lots of cards or draw several cards at once when they start running low.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great game as it is, but there just weren’t enough challenge cards to prevent your opponent’s army growing before it was too late. The game also includes items you can equip to your heroes, 1V1 challenge cards, and roll modifiers to tip the odds in your favor.You choose a party leader – who imparts a pretty powerful bonus throughout the duration of the game – deal a hand of cards to everyone, turn over three big monsters and off you go. The aim of Here to Slay is to collect a set of 6 different hero classes which already in (one of each available in the base game) OR to defeat 3 of the monsters in a shared central row. Each battle is a fairer and a more exciting contest- each little army is full of more exciting characters- and it’s a better two-player AND large group game.

None of this vastly changes the gameplay and is really just some bonus items for backing the project. Here to slay is a fast-paced, easy to learn game that is perfect for all skill levels, whether you’re just entering the world of role-playing games or honing your masterful skills. The two six-sided dice included are pretty solid, however, and have a unicorn horn on the ‘1’ side, which adds to the consistent visual design of the game. This holiday expansion pairs with the Here to Slay, a strategic roleplaying game from the creators of Unstable Unicorns.Though used for quite a few actions and adding further randomness to a game that can already feel like it’s erring on the side of too random, it does make the combat – and consequently, the game – a little less predictable, though not necessarily in a bad way. Druid Deer protect your army, such as ‘Maegisty’ and ‘Doe Fallow’ … took me too long to figure that one out. The expansion recommends that you now collect 8 classes of hero, which makes it a more balanced game in our experience.

Here to Slay is a competitive role-playing fantasy strategy card game that’s all about assembling a party of Heroes and slaying monsters (and sometimes sabotaging your friends too) from the creators of Unstable Unicorns. It has enough going on to feel interesting, with alternate win conditions and action point mechanics giving you interesting choices every turn. I often play Here to Slay as a two-player game with my husband – we used to remove hero cards from the deck to make it more suitable for a 2-player game.Let me start by saying that if you don’t like other players messing with your stuff, this isn’t the game for you. From the creators of Unstable Unicorns, this brutal and adorable game takes 30-60 minutes to play and is for 2-6 players (recommended for ages 10+).
