Description

There’s obviously little in the way of bass extension, and the RC630K will sound strained at higher volumes, but there’s a good sense of width. The inclusion of Dolby Atmos is welcome, and while it can’t work miracles, it gives the audio a greater feeling of dimensionality. Overall does a creditable job with sufficient clear voice emphasis (1-4kHz) to make dialogue intelligible. It is not for the hearing impaired. Now to Dolby Atmos Direct LED (see below for details). These may decode DV with the result that is closer to 40-50% of OLED HDR

TCL 55C635K review - Which?

It’s better to have 1440p/120fps gameplay than 1080p/60, obviously, but it would be nice if TCL used HDMI 2.1 to get the full benefits of the spec. Sound It uses a standard VESA 300x 300 with M6 thread, so you can choose from a vast range of third-party mounts. When moving on to actual viewing material, the RC630K continued to impress, rendering the fine detail in native 4K content with commendable skill. The tone mapping was fairly good with HDR10, but much better when dealing with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Since all streamers use one of these formats (mainly the latter), and so do a lot of 4K Blu-rays, this TV has you covered. The result is that the 6-Series is more closer akin to OLED in terms of brightness and contrast, but has the benefit of using quantum dots, like last year, which means you’ll see a Wide Color Gamut that looks amazing.

TCL 55C635K 55-inch QLED Television, 4K Ultra HD, Smart TV

To put the TCL 6-Series through its paces we tried tons of different content, from Night on Earth (available in Dolby Vision, no less) to the local news to see how the TV upscaled HD content to fill the 4K screen. At 20% panel, it can reach about 400 nits; at 10% panel, it can reach 500 nits, and at 2% panel, it can micro-second flash around 800 nits. HDR/10/+/HLG/Dolby Vision – Technical Fail but Passable

Everything you could possibly expect from a $650 TCL 4K TV

So that you know, the TCL 2022 series TVs use the ‘35’ model number. So the C635 is a C6-series QLED. Above that is a C7-series QLED, and a C8-series mini-LED. Below the QLED is the P7 series LED/LCD (Edge-lit, no Quantum Dot). Why are we telling you this? Well, we have noticed quite a lot of the 2021 ‘25’ series and even the odd 2020 ‘15’ series at retailers, and we believe the 2022 series are quite a leap forward. We are rating this as a lower-cost value device. We are not trying to compare it to other more expensive TV technologies. Image Quality To test the TCL RC630K we used Portrait Displays Calman colour calibration software. TCL RC630K review: Gaming It claims 6000:1, which we think is a ‘stretch target’. Still, for the price, the VA panel is more contrasty than Edge-lit IPS panels. On the left there’s a choice of Freeview Play, streaming channels and the settings menu, plus a search function and the ability to save custom lists. Over on the right you can access any connected devices and live TV, along with all the apps. There’s sufficient processing power to ensure the Roku platform is responsive, but it’s also intuitive to use and easy to navigate.
