Bailey is the central character and focal point of the various communications that comprise the story, and she’s an intriguing character from the outset.

Oh, and theres also a very entertaining creepy/quasi-supernatural element thanks to the unexplained events surrounding the cult. And not only that, then have the protagonist, herself, outline every detail that led to the sudden unexpected twist of the matter made the entire present story line all feel for naught. The Alperton Angels were a cult who brainwashed a teenage girl and convinced her that her newborn baby was the anti-Christ. I never go into a book trying to put on my detective hat with an old school pipe to suss out what really happened and which characters might be lying to me, and here I felt as though Hallett wanted the reader to construct their own murder board with doodles of characters connected by red string to really get the most enjoyment out of the book. This can be an effective storytelling device, but in this case, waiting for the private investigator heroine to get to where the reader is at the beginning of the story feels interminable. Hallett also kept up such a clever and sharp well-maintained contrast between the narratives - with such cheek and sharp clever dialogue and banter that made it easily convenient for me to notice the difference in the character's personalities - and still, all the while, having the allure of mystery and a very dreary and haunting chill to the past scenes that gripped my attention till the very end.

I appreciate books that do this dossier format, here though I felt like the reader needed to want to play detective in a way that I never do in mysteries. Ellie adds comments to these transcripts in brackets or by sticky notes with her thoughts, advice and humour. I have to confess that I still haven't read Janice Hallett's first book, but, having enjoyed her second I was keen to read her latest and I am pleased to give this a solid, five-star review. The group hits the headlines and remains there after four people end up dead with the teenage couple surviving as does the baby. I finished this book over two weeks ago, and while I have fond memories of it, even while reading it there wasn't really a lot that was sticking with me. After ensnaring the teenagers and convincing them that the baby was destined to doom humanity, they planned to kill the infant at the appointed time – 10 December 2003 – when five planets were due to align in a rare astral occurrence. Luckily Janice Hallett delves into that desire and presents us with a legal alternative: this book !

I think this novel takes a little while to get going but that’s because this is Janice Hallett’s most ambitious novel to date. Massively addictive and a true page-turner, this book will have you going around in circles like mad. It’s difficult to see how you wouldn’t be worried though, as a series of fatalities only serves to heighten tension and fear. She had the puzzle element down in the first book but I didn't care about the characters or connect emotionally with the story. Do you see it that way and why do you think readers are gravitating to this and indeed to true crime? From the bestselling author of The Appeal and The Twyford Code comes a stunning new mystery for fans of Richard Osman and S. Granted, there may have been signs here and there that I should have suspected all was not right in Amanda's motives, but it just seemed like such an unnecessary tactic, and just shifted the focus entirely from the current mystery at hand, to a whole other plot device. The whereabouts of these three becoming a mystery that people have obsessed about ever since and as the baby is about to turn eighteen there is renewed interest in the finding them. But when she’s picked to lead a pilot team that pairs her with two physical detectives and Lock, an AIDE (Artificially Intelligent Detective Entity), she’s not sure if things will work out. It was almost as if I was watching a movie - that's how entertaining it was and kept my attention and interest to find out the truth for myself.

Hand whatever you've read over to the police or shove it all back into a safety deposit box and make the key disappear forever. I was somewhat confused with the resolution honestly, despite it being well set up (again, I think this is will be very bad in audiobook) and not sure if a few things were as well explained as they could like the mad squaddie and his role, and why the fuck did Ellie tell her stupid theory about Lady Louise to Oliver, or was Ellie some kind of double agent? As Amanda and Oliver are forced to collaborate, they realise that what everyone thinks they know about the Angels is wrong. I find myself on the edge of my seat as the conspiracy deepens becoming infinitely more dangerous with so many things not adding up.Achttien jaar geleden vielen er in één nacht vier doden, werd de sekteleider opgepakt en verdwenen twee tieners met een baby, maar niemand weet wat precies heeft geleid tot de fatale gebeurtenissen en van de verdwenen personen ontbreekt nog altijd ieder spoor. All this renders The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels a deviously twisting and twisted puzzle layered with a multitude of deceptions, intrigues and red herrings. If you enjoyed both The Appeal and The Twyford Code then I’m sure you will really enjoy this one too. Everyone knows the story of the Alperton Angels, the cult that brainwashed a teenage girl into believing her baby was the anti-Christ.
