Battery life, by the way, is a slight improvement on the Honor 9X but not massively so. In our test, it lasted 13hrs 26mins before giving up. Unsurprisingly, the 5,000mAh cell on the Moto G8 Power lasts quite a bit longer: nine hours longer, to be precise. Honor 9X Pro review: Camera

Honor 9X Pro mobile was launched in July 2019. The phone comes with a 6.59-inch touchscreen display offering a resolution of 1080x2340 pixels at a pixel density of 391 pixels per inch (ppi) and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Honor 9X Pro is powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 810 processor. It comes with 6GB of RAM. The Honor 9X Pro runs Android Pie and is powered by a 4000mAh battery.

HONOR 9X Pro review: The big picture

The Honor 9X Pro is powered by the 2.27GHz octa-core Kirin 810 processor, which is interesting because it’s not one we’ve tested before. That’s not as weird as it sounds. Kirin is also owned by Huawei, so the chips typically only appear in the company’s own handsets, be they Huawei- or Honor-branded.

But demosaicing is something a lot of phones can do and probably that's why Honor is trying to one-up those with the 48MP AI Ultra Clarity option, which improves the photo quality through supersampling. It takes six seconds to snap a single photo and you must keep the phone steady, but it will be worth it. The 48MP AIUC samples have much more detail than the regular 48MP images and if you downscale these to 12MP - those are superior in detail to the regular 12MP shots, especially in high intricacy areas such as foliage. Samples coming up in a bit!

The main camera uses a Sony IMX582 48MP sensor that has a Quad-Bayer array for pixel binning and the resulting image is 12MP in resolution. You can shoot in 48MP though, and under the right circumstances (good light), you will get a native 48MP photo - this is achieved through demosaicing (reconstructing by interpolation) the missing color information. Though this HONOR 9X Pro is a Chinese version model, the setting up process is generally the same. But I need the GMS! I searched on the Internet and finally I found the way! It's quite easy if you follow up my steps!

The two phones are more evenly matched in this wide open scene with a mix of dark and bright spots, but once again the Pixel 3a brings out the details and color much more than the 9X achieves, with the Honor also capturing large flares from the bright spotlights illuminating the square in front of Kings Cross Station. If you can stretch to a Pixel 3a or Pixel 3a XL, you’re probably better off doing so. Aside from offering better cameras than the Honor 9X, these can use Android 10, are available in the US and aren’t at risk from suddenly losing out on Google’s support due to international politics. But if you want a larger display for less money, the Honor 9X is worth a look. The default 12MP photos from the main camera are sharp and detailed. We observed accurate (if a bit subdued) colors and the dynamic range was always great and we never used HDR. Areas of high complexity such as foliage and building blinds are not as nicely presented and what appears to be overly aggressive noise-reduction process smears some fine detail. There are noticeable oil-painting-like areas here and there. The Honor 9X Pro can record in 1080p resolution with its main and ultra-wide-angle snappers though 60fps mode is available only with the primary camera. There is electronic stabilization and it is always-on. In this normal shot of Covent Garden, the Pixel 3a’s image is notably colder than the 9X’s image. While sometimes a cold image can be a bad sign, here it’s a more accurate depiction of the very bright day. For the pictures I took of this muffin, I switched the 9X’s settings so it took images at its full 48-MP instead of the usual 12-MP resolution, which it does to save memory and to allow for digital zoom and other photo functions. This resulted in a far brighter image than the one produced by the 12.2 megapixels that the Pixel 3a manages. The two different shots make different parts of this baked treat look better — the cake itself on the Honor, the jam topping on the Google. Whichever picture you prefer, it shows that under the right circumstances the 9X can take photos with the best of them. Both the main and ultra-wide camera deliver good dynamic range, nice contrast, no visible noise, and punchy colors. The picture is quite soft though and the resolved detail is average at best. Pro mode is available via the mode selector, and there you can adjust the parameters yourself - ISO (50 to 102,400), shutter speed (1/4000s to 30s), exposure compensation (-4 to +4EV in 1/3 stop increments), and white balance (presets and light temperature).
