These grades are the best choice for you if you’re redecorating a property that’s generally in good condition, and you simply want a perfectly smooth surface that will make applying your wallpaper even easier. 1200 – 1400 Most wallpapers, especially textured or woven styles, expand and shrink during the decorating process. As you apply the adhesive, the wet paper balloons. When it dries, it'll return to its original size.

Subtract the total from Step 4 from the total in Step 2 to get the total length of lining paper needed for the room (T), excluding the windows and doors. Choose 1200 or 1400 grade lining paper if your walls are moderately damaged. This lining paper is heavier than 800 – 1000, so it’s also a great way to increase the durability of your wallpaper or paint. 1700 – 2000 Before you start hanging lining paper you will need to prep the area you are working in. We are assuming that you have already prepped the walls. If not, see our section below on 'what's the best way to prepare a wall for lining paper?'. If possible empty the room you will be working in so you have full access to the walls and room for your pasting table. Alternatively, move your furniture to one side and cover the furniture and floor with dust sheets. Newly hung lining paper should be left for at least 24 hours to make sure that it has dried out properly before any paint is applied. If the room is cold then you want to leave it for at least 48 hours. Or, introduce a gentle ambient heat to help speed up the drying process. If you are wallpapering new plaster you will need a light grade lining paper as the wall will be completely smooth. This adds a little extra insulation and provides a great blank canvas for painting. Our lining paper range includes standard lining paper that you apply adhesive to, or paste the wall lining paper. Paste the wall can be easier to hang as you apply the adhesive to the wall rather than the paper, so you don’t have heavy folded paper to hang. For paste the wall lining paper, we recommend using a paint roller to apply the adhesive to the wall. Thankfully, lining paper is the answer to your wallpaper woes. It dries much faster and absorbs most of the moisture to eliminate unwanted movement. 6. Protecting against wear and tear It’s easier to hang, but still robust and durable. The smooth surface makes it ideal for painting, with the paint going further on your walls. It’s also a paste-the-wall product, so it’s much easier to hang. Fibreliner Plus Marking a straight horizontal line on the wall, so you can hang the lining paper straight, overlapping and trimming off any excess. If you hang lining paper flush against the ceiling you can be left with gaps as walls are rarely perfectly straight.

You (or your clients) will be looking at your walls every day, so any texture or faults will be difficult to ignore. This is even more annoying if you’ve spent a lot of money on your wallpaper. Lining paper is the best way to achieve a flawless finish that will boost the appearance – and longevity – of your DIY. What are the different grades of lining paper? If you’ve made the decision to hang lining paper, it’s time to find out how it’s done. Thankfully, the process can be completed in a few simple steps… If you are going to use lining paper why do all this? Should it not be the case that lining paper will take most of the problems out? Just a thought. Simply paste the adhesive directly onto the walls then put the paper straight onto them. It’s dimensionally stable, so it won’t expand or shrink. That means a better result, which is free of bubbles and lifting. The adhesive required also varies depending on whether you’re hanging paste the paper of paste the wall lining paper. Width When shopping for lining paper there are a number of things to consider, to get the most suitable type of lining paper for your project.

When papering around a pendant light, turn off the power at the mains or isolate the circuit you are working on (switching off at the wall is not enough). Get a spirit level and mark a horizontal line across the wall from corner to corner. Measure how far it is from corner to corner. Now get your lining paper and cut — add an extra 100-200mm to overlap and cut into the corner. Now cut enough full length strips to cover the wall. You should need around five strips.

Our ERFURTmav Professional linings are the brand of choice for many professional decorators throughout the UK. Carefully selected long fibre, pure paper pulp is used to produce paper with excellent tensile strength and easy cutting characteristics, even when soaked. Now you know what lining paper is used for, it's time to decide which type is best for you. You can choose between standard lining paper or paste the wall lining paper, depending on your personal preference.

If you're new to lining paper, don't worry. Keep reading as we run through everything you need to know about this must-have decorating tool. What is lining paper? You should leave newly hung lining paper for at least 24 hours before you think about painting it. If the room is cold you want to think about leaving the lining paper for at least 48 hours. Divide the total from Step 6 by the length of the roll (L) and round up to give you the total number of rolls required (TR). Ideally try to introduce some gentle ambient heat into the area where the lining paper is to help it dry properly. This will also help the paint dry faster so you can use the room sooner. How many drops does a roll of lining paper do? I've had good results so far by using Easifill on the marks. It goes on easily and is easy to sand to a really smooth finish. It's so good, in fact, that I'm considering using it across the whole walls. Would this be an option? Already tried a few slightly larger areas and looks good... Just a really (really) thin layer all across to fill all of the holes and get a smooth final result. Obviously skimming would be preferable, but the flat's 125m2, the budget's tight - and so far, this looks like it might work... Or really bad idea?Dust sheets - either cloth or polythene dust sheets are usable for this task, although polythene can be slippery when used over hard flooring Divide the height of the wall (WH) by the width of the roll of lining paper (LPW) to get the length of lining paper needed for the wall (LPL).
