It wasnt the sight of Sanguinius that caused the Emperor to see Horus as irredeemable. It was a normal human Guardsman getting wasted while the Emperor was fighting Horus. It took me two years to write the whole thing. It was literally the biggest thing I’ve ever done, the most formidable challenge, because there’s so much expectation attached to it”, he adds. “I loved it. I was almost sorry when it was over and there was nothing left to write – but I had to have a good long lie-down afterwards…”

To be fair, even after echoes of eternity there’s a lot of plot points on Terra that need sorting before they can get to the fight between Sanguinius and Horus. The end is nigh, and death comes to us all. The great saga that began 17 years ago with Dan Abnett’s seminal novel Horus Rising is hurtling to its inevitable conclusion. Written by the same author who launched this epic series, The End and the Death Volume 1 was unleashed on the galaxy earlier this year, while Volume 2 will be with us very shortly. But we’re not quite done… The story will conclude in Volume 3 of Dan’s magnum opus! The war for the future of the Imperium has reached a critical juncture. With Terra besieged, and the defenders scattered and broken, the Warmaster’s victory seems to be in sight. Sanguinius is not a character I’d written much of, but I had fun with him. He’s an extremely difficult character to write, and a challenge that I really enjoyed. And weirdly, I found an enormous sympathy with Abaddon and the situation he finds himself in – where he’s obviously completely committed to doing terrible things. Oll and co are brought to the throne room and Vulkan recognises John so they're allowed to hang around The chaos of the siege doesn’t help the second half of the book. Everyone’s had an approach to the immense scale of these final hours in one way or another – the Solar War added literal space to numbers, Saturnine slammed through hundreds of overlapping viewpoints at a rapid pace, Echoes nailed the conflict to a single, burning point. The End and the Death attempts to do it all, and for all of the skill on show in writing different voices and perspectives, it’s where the novel creaks and breaks. We’re told rather than shown the preposterous scale of the conflict. It feels less apocalyptic and terrifying than the masterwork that was Saturnine because it loses the key focal point to show the desperation we’re told is present. Chapters of “Fragments” – single paragraph or even single line vignettes – are supposed to show us the full extent of the siege, and sometimes do this to great effect. Others, unfortunately read like some of the early attempts to establish the Stormcast Eternals as viable protagonists, all nounverbers at the placenames against the adjective verbnouners. There’s just too much context. Malcador begs the Emperor to talk to him multiple times but gets no response, the Throne is overwhelming the Emperor with pain but he is doing a thousand things at once on the throne, inspiring individual soldiers on Terra, soothing civilians, directing the webway. Finally he reaches out to heal the Khan's soul and Malcador knows he has returned. The Khan is still injured and will take months potentially to heal but the Emperor is conscious again The Emperor's forces are all split up when they teleport. Dorn is teleported to a desert where he spends centuries surrounded by tens of thousands of dead Imperial Fists. he slowly forgets of the Siege and begins to be tempted by Khorne who promises an end to thinking and plans and the life of a simple warrior who only needs to kill his enemies. With Terra besieged and humanity’s salvation on a knife edge, Sanguinius, primarch of the loyalist Blood Angels, braves the horrors of the Warmaster’s flagship, The Vengeful Spirit, with a single purpose in mind: to slay his brother Horus, decapitate the Heresy once and for all, and stop the forces of Chaos from taking Terra. While exploring the Imperial library Loken finds a door that didn't exist previously and it takes him to the Vengeful Spirit. The book ends with him entering the ship

I could not find any information about a possible release date or any info about length or whatever about the book. Because the Emperor is on the first book's cover? And the clash between Sanguinius and Horus was really the dividing line for the Emperor- before Horus killed Sanguinius there was still some hope that he could be turned from his path, but once the Emperor saw Sanguinius (arguably his most noble son) dead by Horus' hand He knew that destroying Horus was the only way. The End and the Death is the final, torturous step on the road the Great Crusade began. With the empire contracted to a single planet, the dream of the great work lying in ruins, the full fury of the Space Marines exhausted and turned inward to purge and scour the homeworld itself, you can’t help but see the beating heart of the novel as Dan Abnett. Not the Emperor, not Horus, not Malcador. Dan. How does Dorn get from the bastion to the Emperor’s side? Do the loyalists manage to learn of the Ultramarine’s approach? Sanguinius needs at least a bit of time to heal. There’s a few minor and some major characters that could do with wrapping up or at least positioning before the final showdown.
