i almost didn't want to rate this book 5 stars or even 4 because of the author, but again, this book is about enaiatollah akbari. For Enaiat is a Hazara, and the saying among the Taliban goes: "Tajikistan for the Tajiks; Uzbekistan for the Uzbeks and 'Goristan' for the Hazara.

E leggendo non potevo fare a meno di pensare che tutto ciò che possiamo fare (e non è poco) è cercare di essere esempi positivi, perché come dice Enaiatollah, "tanta gentilezza, la si tramanda solo con l'esempio". He found work along the way; made a few friends; was grateful for the kindnesses of others and never lost his courage. He's stalked and nabbed by the police of every country he has to cross throughout in his slow trek toward freedom, until he stows away on a Greek freighter for three days without food or water to finally arrive in Italy, the land where, at last, people treat him kindly, and where he finally finds a family of his own, in a perfect ending that will reduce many readers to tears of joy and sheer relief.

The harrowing adventures that follow in this superb little novel are based on the true story Enaiat told to author Fabio Geda in Turin at the end of his perilous, five-year odyssey through Iran, Turkey and Greece, all the way to Italy. It is a quick read with occasional excerpts of conversations between subject and author included throughout the book. Pötzsch regaled his audience with the details of the executioners' duties his family performed throughout Germany for three centuries, such as the skill and finesse required to successfully perform a swift, painless beheading. un viaggio durato anni quello che, da un piccolo villaggio afghano, ha condotto il bambino protagonista di questo libro fino alla città di Torino.

Reminiscent of Michael Cunningham's A Home at the End of the World, though with a definitely original voice, this sweeping, powerful first novel touches on the themes of teenage angst, suburban disaffection, and the punk scene in the late 1980s, while also tackling the larger subjects of love, identity, complex family relationships, religion, and sexuality. i don't feel comfortable rating this anything but five stars because who am i to judge one boy's life on how easily i can consume it or how much i enjoyed it?

In trying to reconnect to the good parts of her marriage, she ends up feeling lost and lonely, but through a series of mismatched friendships, she finds her way back to herself and her family. Ci sono tanti libri validi che parlano di storie di immigrazione e "Nel mare ci sono i coccodrilli" rientra sicuramente tra questi. The Boston Globe focused on "an emergent class of tech consumers that is being closely watched by the industry. I can recommend this book to anyone of any age and they will be educated, entertained and thankfull for their own lives. She joined the company as an assistant in 2009 and earlier was an assistant producer at Milwaukee Public Radio. It was so hard to concentrate on and listen to because both the narrators (one for Enaiat, one for Fabio Geda, the author) were so bad. In a book that takes a true story and shapes it into a beautiful piece of fiction, Italian novelist Fabio Geda describes Enaiatollah’s remarkable five-year journey from Afghanistan to Italy where he finally managed to claim political asylum aged fifteen. He and his mother fled their little village of Nava (meaning "gutter"), inhabited mainly by Hazaras, a persecuted Afghani minority, when it fell under Taliban control; Enaiat was forced to watch his schoolteacher executed for daring to educate Hazaras. I thought it was a great way to recount Akbari’s experiences, but as I mentioned, it felt like he was keeping the reader at arm’s length a lot of the time.

There are great quotes within the story, too, and you can tell that Akbari is already so changed and wisened by his early experiences.
