Also dubbed as the People’s Theater “because of contributions made by various Singaporeans towards its construction”, the National Theater designed by architect Alfred Wong hosted “an exotic mix of shows every month, ranging from Teochew opera and Russian ballet to Hawaiian dances” (Shetty 2010).
