The consensus is that until the rainbow mark fades, whatever the current map is, there will be a prismatic wall in that location. Once you have one page with the proper gridlines, photocopy as many as you need for your mat (I'd estimate somewhere around 15 or 20). This is an excellent battleboard for use at home, but unless you pre-cut it so you can fold it for easier transport, it doesn't have easy mobility. Given that it sounds like you are willing to do some work here's another option that I've seen work, but not done myself.
