Think about it: the grass blades are your plant’s protective layer. So, if you cut away too much, the plant will suffer. Hydrangeas that bloom on new wood (this year’s growth), such as the panicle hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) or smooth hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens), can be pruned in late winter or early spring. Box caterpillars are most active between March and October, during which time they can destroy a box plant within a week. Unfortunately, there isn’t a straightforward answer to yellow patches on your lawn. This is pretty much why we’re going to cover the possible causes and how to overcome them. Fertilise the plant regularly and provide plenty of water to keep the plant growing steadily throughout the year. 3. Pruning ground cover roses

The fungus develops on or between plants — spread via spores carried on moisture droplets or through the wind, on animals and insects, and through water. Early morning or evening are the best times for fertilising your plants if you’re using a granulated or slow-release feed because you’ll need to water immediately afterwards to activate the feed. This means they provide consistent colour and texture, making them ideal for adding visual interest to your garden or home regardless of the season. One of the best things about ivy is its ability to grow in the shade, which brings textural interest over fences, trellis, and walls. 20. Barbed Wire Plant (Calocephalus) The barbed wire plant

Thriving in full sun to partial shade, bay requires well-drained soil and is perfect for adding fragrance to your garden or home. Dwarf Mountain Pine is a compact evergreen conifer known for its dense, bushy growth habit and striking pine needles. This stunning plant makes an excellent outdoor pine bonsai (if you’re looking for a new hobby!), remaining frost-tolerant and favouring the rigours of the UK weather. Yellow patches can result from too little water or too much fertiliser. Or too few nutrients and too much water. Pets and local wildlife can be the culprits as well. A range of clovers only appears in nitrogen-rich soil with a neutral pH, while coltsfoot grows in soil with a poor structure. There can’t be an adult who didn’t fall into a bush of stinging nettles at some stage of their childhood. And that’s what gives this hardy perennial its fearsome reputation.

So, if you have a manifestation of these little critters, you’ll want to do something about the problem, pronto! If you’re fertilising large areas, you might opt for a hand spreader, ensuring even nutrient distribution. Powder fertiliser Calocephalus is native to Australia, so it loves the sun and warmth. It can tolerate cooler temperatures but will always do better in full sun. Evergreens in pots: maintenance and careIf you spot your pet weeing on your lawn, dilute the nitrogen by watering the area after they’ve finished. In principle, any plant species could be considered a weed. Most people think weeds are plants that simply appear, spread, and self-seed. It’s relatively common for yellow patches to appear throughout your lawn after winter. This is because your grass plants go dormant once the soil temperature plummets below 10ºC, and this provides an excellent window of opportunity for fungi, weeds, moss, and disease to take hold, resulting in yellow patches on your lawn.
