The second benefit that is being talked about, the benefit relates to the way light falls off at the edges of the beam, that is correct. However, this only matters when you flash directly on your subject, without modifiers, a situation every photographer tries to avoid. In such a situation I use a Roque Flashbender myself to soften the direct light (at least close) a bit. That is immediately more beautiful (Flashbender on a rectangular head) than a round head without a modifier. So yes, the light falls off more nicely towards the edges of the beam, but that is an advantage that is of no use in practice. Powerful Performance: This Speedlite provides an incredible Guide Number and can be used for more creative photography options. Additionally, it supports slave functionality, enabling you to use more than one flash simultaneously without needing to buy any additional equipment! With its high-speed sync (HSS) capabilities, you can shoot beautiful photos at a maximum shutter speed of up to 1/8000s without sacrificing light output on Nikon. the short range reliability became a bit of an issue for me until I got used to it - I often hold a unit in one hand and the camera in the other when working on my own at events." I hope you have enjoyed reading my Godox V1 review. If you are hoping to buy this flash then I hope my thoughts will help you make up your mind.

The V1 sets itself apart from other options on the market by its sheer versatility. Capable of doing almost everything a regular speedlight does, it is also able to operate in a studio and to provide better illumination than a rectangular head. When bouncing the flash, the round head doesn’t matter much, but for direct illumination, or when going through modifiers (softboxes, gobos) the V1 will excel.

You can use SB-5000's as on-camera flashes and as optically triggered remotes on CLS-compatible older camera bodies. However, radio control is only available with the D5, D850, D500, D7500, Z6 and Z7, for now. It measures 7.8 by 3.0 by 3.7 inches (HWD) and weighs 1.2 pounds. The flash head tilts and rotates, so you can position it for direct or indirect illumination. The V1’s ability to be easily paired with accessories also increase its versatility. Godox’s magnetic system is inexpensive and works well. You need a bluetooth enabled transmitter, that can be used with the Godox smart device app, there are two right now, the X2T and the R2 Pro II. A built-in 2.4GHz radio receiver will enable it to be remotely triggered using Godox X1 series triggers.

You wouldn't even need the XPro trigger since you can operate the 860IIs with the inbuilt menus but it's a bit cumbersome where the trigger makes life more easy. (but you don't HAVE to buy/use it) I haven't noticed a big price hike in Nikon flashes compared to their past history, though when features are added such as active cooling in the SB-5000, greater zoom range, and radio control, it is understandable that the price does increase somewhat. The umbrella test in this review shows that an umbrella is more evenly lit. However, this is not the whole story: the umbrella used in the review is quite large at 173cm and with a smaller umbrella the difference will no longer be visible. But even so, I did the same test with my 60inch umbrella and sure enough, the round head of the V1 gave a more even illumination, clearly visible. Then I used the built-in wide-angle diffuser of my rectangular flash head and... the difference was gone. The built-in wide-angle diffuser in a rectangular flash head works wonders in an umbrella (you do lose about 1 stop). Advanced Features: There is no doubt that the GODOX V1-N will provide professional quality results at an exceptional price point, and they offer a number of features that cannot be ignored. With this flash, you’ll have access to reliable power and performance that won. You also get fully supported TTL auto flash, manual flash, L/8000s high-speed sync, and many more. It has a flash duration of 1/300 to 1/20000 seconds and can cover a range of 28 to 105mm. This Godox V1 review isn't going to be about stats or shooting into bare walls and talking about lighting patterns. It is going to be based wholly on real world use. Also, it is going to be pretty hard to write about this flash, without comparing it to it's brother, the Godox v860ii. I suspect most readers will be reading this review to decide if they should buy the V1 or v860ii. So I hope my comparisons won't be an issue.

I'd love to see some modifiers like the MagMod System available for this. A small softbox we can attach on the go would be great if the magnets are strong enough. Another one would be a full set of gel. I love using gels and a set of sheets that could simply be placed between two magnetic rubber rings would be great. What else would benefit your photography in a magnetic form for this flash? Display If there are multiple flash groups and channels available, you will be able to control a more significant number of flash units remotely, and you will be able to create a wider variety of lighting setups for your videos. Having a flash with multiple groups and channels will give you more flexibility and control over the lighting. Additional features It is important to note that recycling time refers to the amount of time it takes for the flash to recharge after it has fired. Faster recyclability means less waiting between shots. Power output, measured in guide numbers, indicates how bright the flash will be. Look for a flash with a fast recycling time and high power output to suit your specific needs. Through The Lens (TTL)Distributing even light from centre to edge, providing natural and beautiful light effect V1 Round flash head’s light effect is softer and more even. The built-in LED modelling lamp is adjustable from 01 to 10 steps which help to visualize the effects. So the biggest feature of the Godox V1 is of course is the round head. This is instead of the more traditional rectangular fresnel head. The ‘advantage’ of the round head is that the lighting pattern is improved with no hot spot in the middle which is normal for a Fresnel head speedlight. Improved interface The V1 can use the same accessories as the AD100Pro, which we described here. The AK-R1 kit includes many options and bring the V1 beyond the realm of traditional hotshoe speedlights and into the world of studio flashes.
