Description

Having given two talks on camping stoves at recent festivals, one of the key things I realised was that not everyone knows about the different types of gas canisters available for camping stoves. Three Points of the Compass sets out on a winter wander from London to Birmingham along the Grand Union Canal. If so, your best bet will be a stove that burns petrol instead, because you can get that every time you fill up your bike. Which is just as well as Hikin’ Jim at Adventures in Stoving (great site), advises strongly against using such a stove with this adapter.

These canisters are a bit heavy to carry around in a backpack but might be used for camping from a car or at a basecamp. The Duo connector enables a stove to fit both the screw on type EN417 lindal valves and Easy Clic Plus canisters. This does not get a great deal of use from me and I suspect the reliance on plastic parts may result in a failure one day. But the camping gaz non threaded attachment is superior to using the partly threaded tlcut thread on threaded cans ? I’m better with the smaller, lighter camping stoves/canisters rather than the bigger ones, so I’m afraid I’ve not tried what you’re suggesting. Normally when I camp/hunt/hike, I like to pack really light (for obvious reasons) and the Primus Omnifuel is my companion. I’ve bought a Campingaz Camping Chef folding stove and i bought the appropriate regulator to go with it.

Featuring wide pan supports to increase stability, a heat screen to protect the control knob during use and a hard clamshell case for protection in storage makes this stove ideal for any outdoor adventure. The fuel lead to the Spider is quite long so will reach the extended height of a propane canister with adapter attached.Their titanium Siphon has its faults, but these are mostly balanced out by simplicity, small size, light weight, robustness and performance.

Most camping stoves are just compatible with screw-on canisters and some are just compatible with Easy-Clic canisters. Some of these alternative containers can work out a good deal cheaper for their contents than those found in lindal valved canisters. You must remember that these connections effect a gas seal with the o ring fitted in the female fittings, so you must ensure that you don't compromise this seal by damaging either the o ring or the blue plastic clamping mechanism. Plus, I’ve included details of some little known adaptors that will allow you to use any gas cylinder on your camping stove and three stoves that will take more than type of canister. If it is a lindal valve type, it is invariably empty and some lazy git has declined to pack out his rubbish. Propane performs really well at extreme low temperatures, which is why you will find ‘winter-mix’ canisters that hold up to 20% propane.
