Description

The Silent Patient is a thriller that nails the ending, and for that reason alone I’m inclined to forgive a lot of its imperfections.

I have been very hesitant about picking up this one even as a potential read but now I kinda have an idea what to expect with this one. This book starts off really strong with a great premise - intriguing and mysterious right away - the writing is even pretty strong in the beginning, but somewhere along the way it all seemed to fall apart for me.Then she gets an interesting request in her DMs, and Mika finds herself at Nowhere House, an old country estate, teaching three orphaned children how to control their magic. This book tried so hard to be a literary thriller, to the disservice of the character development and any suspense whatsoever. Soon, she and Nathan are invited to a housewarming party in the newly renovated canonry in old Salisbury.

For example, Alicia’s aunt is described the first time you meet her as an ugly, old face pressed to a window, and it only gets worse after that because—of course—she’s fat. The Patient is a suspenseful, domestic thriller that will keep you on your toes and guessing the entire book. So, I’m not sure this is fully explained in the book (someone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). No one has demonstrated this more clearly over the last few years than Steve Carell, who first made his mark in comedies like Anchorman and The 40-Year-Old Virgin before coming to small-screen prominence as Michael Scott in the US version of The Office.Aside from its flaws as a psychological thriller, Michaelides demonstrates that he knows nothing about mental health diagnoses, treatments and indicated medications, but the biases he displays in this novel contribute to a culture of misinformation that may discourage a reader who needs treatment for therapy from getting it, and may discourage other readers from complying with a treatment plan that includes prescription medications in amounts that data shows have therapeutic benefits. You say that Theo had to kill Alicia because he realized she recognized him as the man who entered her house wearing a mask. Nathan and Rachel are invited to a house warming party at the newly renovated property in Old Salisbury Road.

what do you do though if the attraction between you is so strong you are both more than happy to throw away everything you have to indulge your passion? It reads pretty much the way a thriller should read, with plenty of twists and intriguing bits of information doled out at a steady clip. I’m sorry - this book just asks too much of the reader - this ‘twist’ has been done many times before and it only works (and still very poorly) if you overlook all the giant plot holes and ridiculous scenarios. I also was so absorbed with the plot and narration that I didn’t see the end coming and yes,it literally blew me off!Michaelides wastes time on sub-plots that are irrelevant, introduces red herring characters with no subtlety so the reader is merely annoyed. Alicia and her neighbor had also noticed a man (Alicia had suspected Max or Jean) hanging outside her house in the time prior to Gabriel's death. I felt like the author was so determined to deliver the big ‘twist’ that he lost sight of the actual plot. The book hinges completely on its "twist", a twist that also renders the majority of the narrative completely irrelevant. I can't really give you anything more than this, because this is a novel that depends on you being fooled by the twist.

In a span of ten pages, he describes a character as being in "a medicated haze", but the med he names wouldn't cause that effect at any dosage. Through Theo's perspective, his investigation, and Alicia's own diary entries, the Reader is brought along on a hair-raising mystery that is not for the faint of heart.

but how can she have gained this reputation since she has 0 friends and her only real relationship is the one she has with Gabriel (her partner or whatever).
