But grown-ups sit very still and try to act like everything is okay—even if they feel like hiding or crying or screaming, they usually will not.

THough there are some minor "Grim/Dark" overtones, this is still an engaging, fast-paced read, suitable for middle-grade readers (or perhaps adults who are young-at-heart), and it really illustrates what "Children's Literature" can (and should) stand for.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

I enjoyed the coming of age aspect and the development of the relationship between toys and their child-owners. What you don't expect is the beautiful and somewhat terrifying characterizations + drawings of the friends and enemies Ollie meets during his capture. When Billy’s mom made the last stitch, she closed her eyes for a moment as a thousand memories of Nina flooded back to her. It looks a little young for 9-12 year olds to pick up, because of the pictures and the length, although I think kids this age would really enjoy it. Anyway, while I didn't exactly fall in love with it, my 8 year old loved it, and I think that's what matters most.Billy’s father coped by holding his hands together very tightly and clenching his jaw until it ached. Morris Lessmore and The Guardians of Childhood comes a grand adventure of valor, friendship, and a look into the mysterious world of favorite toys. Make a shadow box of one of the scenes from the book, such as the playground, the carnival, the junkyard, or Tunnel of Love.

It will also be a great choice for those strong readers who are still very young, who need a challenging read but aren't ready for more mature middle grade fiction aimed more at 10 and 11 year olds.

Una storia avventurosa e simpatica che parla di amicizia e di crescita, che mi ha coinvolto dalla prima pagina, che mi ha emozionato alla fine. As e-books put pressure on the printed word, picture books that romanticize books proliferate (The Lonely Book, It’s a Book, and Dog Loves Books come to mind). Though tense moments abound in this all-boy adventure, it's always clear that Billy and Ollie will prevail. He and his toy henchman, the Creeps, have sworn to steal and imprison favorite toys until they forget their children and become forever lost.
