Available in a huge range including microfibre, foam, lambs wool etc. they are generally used for getting into tighter spaces that a traditional sized roller would be unable to. Whitepot, (or white-pot) is a delicious late Tudor early Stuart dessert recipe from 1615, particularly associated with Devon in the South-west of England, and it is one of the best tasting baked puddings of the early modern period. These rice pudding ‘whitepot’ recipes (which were also sometimes made of bread and butter) were very popular, … They are also often used for painting timber and fine furniture in paint, varnish, oil and a whole host of other finishes, depending on the type and material of the sleeve. Additionally, to make cutting in easier, sometimes it’s better to also cover any exposed edges such as skirting or architrave with masking tape, more can be found here in our project on masking up. Types of Paint Roller Pile (Nap) As they are quite small, the paint pad it ideal for cutting in and getting into spaces that a standard roller would never reach.

Lambswool is wool taken from the first shearing of the sheep, usually around seven months after its first coat has come in. It has to be no longer than 50mm. It is fine and soft, and requires minimal processing. However, because lambswool can come from any breed of sheep, the micron count can vary considerably and is not usually stated. Lambswool, like all sheep's wool, contains lanolin. It is popularly used for good quality knitwear.A lot of the desirable properties associated with wool and hair stem from a natural protein, called keratin, which is found in the fibers of the hair and skin of mammals. The bilateral core of keratin causes the fibers to twist and bend, giving wool its natural crimp and resilience. Another beneficial property of keratin lies in its flame-resistance, which unlike with plant fibers, makes wool and hair fibers self-extinguishable once no longer directly exposed to a flame.

Some jumpers are heavy and hard wearing, some are light and fuzzy, some have intricate jacquard patterns, some are plain knit, some are naturally coloured and some are dyed, some are washable and some are dry clean only. Crimp is also important. It is the natural waviness of the fibre, the elasticity. The crimp in wool makes it soft and springy to touch. It also adds bulk and traps a large volume of air between the fibres, giving it good insulation properties. In general, the more crimp there is, the smaller is the diameter of the fibre, ie the lower the micron count. Finer wool with more crimp such as merino create fabrics that drape better than coarser wool with little crimp. Merino has up to 100 crimps per inch, more than either cashmere or lambswool. There are numerous types of paint rollers for different jobs; the largest are 18 inches long but the most popular tend to be around 9 inches in width. These are for covering large, flat areas but there are smaller 2 and 4 inch versions for working on smaller areas and all different sizes in between. This allows us to spread the sale of Lambs wool through the year and ensures that producers receive fair value. Roller trays are plastic dishes which have paint tipped in to one end. The roller is dipped in the paint and the surplus paint removed by running the roller up and down the trays flat sloped surface. Mini paint roller sleeves are exactly what they sound like, mini versions of standard roler sleeves. They take dye extremely well and both sheep’s wool or hair from alpacas offer a wide range of natural colors that require no additional dyeing.

Corner rollers are essentially very thin roller sleeves, often only an inch or so wide and they are especially designed to fit into the corners and angles where 2 surfaces such as a wall and a ceiling meet where a standard roller is unable to.

Types of Paint Roller Sleeve

Out of all the various types, the best choice is a roller sleeve of Mohair. This is ideal for most surfaces when used with different length naps, and can even be used with varnish. Mohair is most often used with gloss paints and is also ideal for oil based radiator paints.

For this reason it’s important that we also take a look at the different types of roller frame that are available, these are as follows:a b Preparation of Australian Wool Clips, Code of Practice 2010-2012, Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX), 2010 This Lambswool, (or Lamb’s Wool) is one of the traditional drinks of the ‘Wassail’, (or Apple Howling) it is either so called after the light colour and frothy appearance of the drink on the surface, or, as Richard Cook in 1835 believes, it stems from being served at the ancient Celtic pagan festival of La mas ubal, that is, ‘The Day of the Apple Fruit’; and being pronounced lamasool, it was corrupted to Lambs Wool. The drink is made with a sweet-spiced hot ale (or cider) and roasted apples. To cope with the vast array of different surfaces you’re likely to want to paint using a paint roller, they do come in varying widths, ranging from about 90mm wide up to 450mm and all have their uses. There is no correct or wrong width for any given job but the obvious thing to remember is the larger the surface, the wider the roller as this will get the most paint on the wall and save you the most time.
